    Launch Postponed

Well the launch had to be postponed as we are still completing the performance tuning.  Will post the new date soon.

I just attended a Guerrilla Marketing Workshop by Al Lautenslager, public speaker, author, business owner, marketing consultant and Guerrilla Marketing coach. It was indeed a very good seminar where Al outlined several high impact marketing approach.

Al’s best advice: Dont even think about Advertising unless you have a blank check.

With several new ideas , Pepmall’s marketing plan is getting shape.

Keep in touch to learn about the exciting days of Pepmall.

Customer Service – Why nothing has changed for a long time

Have you ever thought customer service in online stores is still in the stone age? You click the “Chat” button or “Click to Talk” button and get connected to somebody at random. In some stores you don’t know where the representative is answering you from. If there can be any thing worse it would the message that says “No One is available online currently to take your call”. Online stores have been excessively focusing on developing tools that improve the interactivity of the site. But what about human interaction. With online stores generating heavy traffic, can we bring in the concept of a Market Place where human interaction can be nurtured for better user experience and better transactions.

Before Ebay, buyers were interacting with storefronts. Ebay introduced independent sellers in the auction market place and it developed into an economy of its own. What about Product Experts. Best Buy realized the value Product Experts and introduced the “Geek Squad” which has improved the bottom line and took Best Buy way ahead of Curcuit City and other electronics retailers. Independent Product experts can play a vital role in the online market place by assisting the shoppers make better purchase decisions. XpertLane is doing just that. We are building the largest database of Product Experts (in Electorinics & Computers right now) and will be launching the biggest opportunity for independent product experts in 2009. If you are a Product Expert, drop us an email about your comments. Let us build the next big economy together.

    TechCrunch Demo Pit Chip Game

We were one of the strong contenders for the TechCrunch50 People’s choice on Monday. With 37 chips (real votes) we were closely behind IamNews who went on stage as the People’s Choice. But with the RULES not being clearly defined, there was heck of a confusion as to understand what the ethics is around collecting votes (chips). Companies like GAZARO went on a hard core marketing campaign (came to be known as “the red girls”) which backfired with the company being blacklisted for unethical chip manipulation. Wednesday saw PeoplesBrowsr coming up as a strong contender, but also disqualified for collecting chips the earlier day (source: rumour). Several Demo Pit participants helped PeoplesBrowsr since they did not quite appreciate GAZARO’s marketing. Not all companies had “girls” like gazaro did. However, without clear guidelines from TechCrunch as to how you should get votes – it was a chaos among Demo Pit participants. Michael and his team hopefully learned a few tips from this. We went to Demo Pit with a strong hope that we will get on stage. But we do not regret. We made solid connections with several folks. Snipd, PeoplesBrowsr, Gazaro, NutShellMail, IndieGoGo, StyleIt (Korean Comany) – you all were terrific. Special thanks to our neighbours Spoink, Apprema and UFN.com for being a good sport.

I’m not quite sure what all the hoopla was about. There were no rules, and when I talked to the Gazaro guys (and girls) on Wednesday they told me they were never informed of any inappropriate behavior. So in my mind, this is a joke.

There was a bunch of great products, you guys and Gazaro included. I’m sure you all worked extremely hard to get there and in a world where getting noticed is half the battle I don’t see anything wrong with what anyone there did. I got asked by many people for my chips. I finally only gave one of them, to the eventual winner IamNews.

Private Alpha Launched at TechCrunch50 DemoPit

    logo
Finally we are done with the stealth mode. We launched Pepmall’s XpertLane at the Demo Pit floor today. After 4 months of development, Pepmall’s xpertlane said HELLO to Demo Pit participants. The winner of our iPod Nano (4GB) lucky draw was Steven Willmont from 3Scale networks. Michael Arringhton (TechCrunch) played a trick while selecting the winner by planting his own Business Card and pulling it out. Our thanks to Michael for being at our stall. We will be in the Demo Pit again on Wednesday, Sep 10th. Here is our DemoPit profile.
